£1.4m crackdown on teenage summer binge drinking
Wednesday, June 17th, 2009Camden is to get extra Government cash to tackle teenage binge drinking during the summer holidays.
Camden will receive a share of a new £1.4m fund in addition to the £350,000 it already receives to tackle anti-social behaviour and youth crime. Children’s services and the police are being asked to work together to stop and prevent alcohol influenced anti-social behaviour. This is alongside the Government’s strategy to prevent anti-social behaviour by giving young people a say in the activities on offer in their areas, at the times and places they want and need them, including on Friday and Saturday nights.
Frank Dobson MP said: “I’m delighted that the Government is focussed on tackling anti-social behaviour and underage drinking. Alcohol related crime and anti-social behaviour is a particular problem during the summer months. Whilst most young people are law-abiding and well behaved, this extra cash will help Camden tackle the minority who are anti-social through a mixture of education, enforcement and cooperation with local businesses.
“I shall write to the Leader of the Council to ask him to set out how the Town Hall plans to work with the local police to use this extra cash effectively.”
